Brandon May's Mavs Land Musings

Sometimes I Hate to be Right

Way back at the start of the season, Fandy and I had a little email of the week. In it, I said this: Here's a prediction: The Mavs will be 7-9 going into December. I was one off.

Everything Old is Newell Again

There are two main reasons I love basketball, and neither of them have to do with the Mavs. One, when it is played the right way, it is the most beautiful sport to watch.

U.S. Government Against All Things Cuban

It started with the Bay of Pigs, and now here we are. The U.S. government is truly against all things Cuban. It has been a rough calendar year for Mark Cuban, or as rough as it can get when you are a billionaire.

Welcome Back

Where to start? For those of you that have been long time readers, ever since the email days, then I'm sure you have some questions. For those of you on Newsvine that have wondered if I was still alive, I'm sure you have some questions.

NBA Finals Preview: Hurry Up and Wait

It's widely understood that of the 4 main professional sports leagues in the United States, the NFL is king. Everyone else is fighting for second.

There Goes My Dream

It was my dream to turn this blog into nothing more than an opportunity to sit in the press box to report on a game, go into the locker room to interview the players, and have access to the morning and pregame shootarounds for some extra insight just once.

3 Cheers: Mavs 102, Clippers 89

The big news during this game was the report that Grandma-ma himself, Larry Johnson, native Dallasite and father of 24 kids by 39 women (you do the math), has fulfilled a promise to his mother and got his degree from UNLV a good 17 years after he left early as the #1 pick in the  …

3 Cheers: Mavs 108, Suns 105

As much as I say that the Mavs/Spurs are the best rivalry in the game right now, I think that the Mavs/Suns are the best matchup.

3 Cheers: Mavs 111, Magic 108

No Rashard Lewis tonight. Scratch that, Lewis will play. It doesn't matter, though. If you have Dwight Howard on your team, you are good. Howard is a man-beast, and will be one of the best players in the league for years to come.

3 Cheers: Mavs 96, Rockets 83

The Mavs are meeting the Rockets for the 3rd of their 4 times in the first 25 games of the season. Do I think that's wrong that a team can meet one of their divisional opponents so many times at the beginning of the season? Yes. Am I complaining about it? No.

3 Cheers: Mavs 89, Hornets 80

With all the things that happened in this game, there was one thing that stuck in my mind.

3 Cheers: Raptors 92, Mavs 76

I Tivoed this game, but it was erased before I got to watch it. From the highlights (or lowlights) that I saw, it's probably a good thing. The Mavs had nothing. Remember that turning point I was hoping for in that New York game? You can throw that out the window.

3 Cheers: Mavs 99, Knicks 89

It was mid-December. The Mavs were in New York, and the team lost to a poor Knicks team. The very next game, Erick Dampier was benched and DeSagana Diop was inserted as the starting center.

Special Edition 3 Cheers: Most Awesome Mavs Experience Ever (Regular Season) I've been to some exciting Mavs games in my life. I've seen some games that I will remember forever.

3 Cheers: Nuggets 122, Mavs 109

I get it that it's hard to play the Spurs tough and down to the wire one night, then face up against the free-wheeling, run-and-gun Nuggets the very next night, but the Mavs were never really in sync as a team in this game.

3 Cheers: Spurs 97, Mavs 95

Tim Duncan didn't play in this game. It may surprise you that I'm upset by that. I think it sets the Mavs up for a no-win situation. If the Mavs win, then they should have won because Duncan was out, and no one is impressed.

3 Cheers: Hornets 112, Mavs 108

If a tree falls and no one's around to hear it, did it happen at a Hornets home game? I understand that the NBA had an obligation to return to New Orleans after what happened, but they weren't drawing crowds before Katrina and they aren't drawing crowds now.

3 Cheers: Mavs 91, Blazers 80

I will just say this about the Blazers: watch out! A team that 2 years ago had a starting lineup that resembled a police lineup has completely overhauled their team with young talent, jettisonned the n'er-do-wells, and are probably 3 years ahead of the curve to becoming a succes …

Avery Johnson went back to his tried and true starting lineup from last year that helped them to 67 wins, placing Jason Terry and Erick Dampier back in the starting lineup to try to end this losing streak. It worked, for now, but Terry will be back on the bench soon.

3 Cheers: Wizards 110, Mavs 98

I got to go to this game (thanks to my father-in-law for taking me), and I was purely disgusted. I've seen some bad Mavs games in person, but this game might just take the cake because the other s**ty games were played by s**ty teams. This team is better than that.

3 Cheers: Bucks 97, Mavs 95

If you see the Mavs going to Milwaukee on the schedule, you can pretty much chalk up a loss. The Bucks could go 1-81, and the Mavs could go 81-1, but that one win/loss would be the Mavs in Milwaukee. It's almost scientific. The Mavs are 5-21 in Milwaukee in their entire history.

3 Cheers: Pacers 111, Mavs 107

This was a hard game to go back and watch knowing the outcome and the events that transpired. Bennett Salvatore, known Mavs-hating ref, was calling the game, and Avery didn't just get kicked out of the game.

So here's the deal. The holidays have been pretty hectic for me. I've been busy at the store selling swing sets and furniture at Wooden Swing.
