Where to start? For those of you that have been long time readers, ever since the email days, then I'm sure you have some questions. For those of you on Newsvine that have wondered if I was still alive, I'm sure you have some questions. And for those of you that are new to this here blog, I'm sure you have some questions. So I will begin with a question. Where to start?
For the long time readers (run to the Finals days)
Here's the deal. Ever since the Jason Kidd trade, I've been in a funk. I wanted to write, but I just couldn't. It wasn't a time issue; it was a desire issue. I just lost hope. I still have, as you will soon see in future posts. Since you all have been with me since this thing started off as an innocent string of emails that wound up being forwarded to numerous people during the historic Mavs run to (and colossal collapse in) the Finals two years ago, the Dude has gone a little cold and bitter. I promise to make it up to you, however in a slightly different format. I will no longer try to break down each and every game, although I will still watch each and every game. I will write when the spirit moves me. I think we will be all the better for it. I won't be forcing the issue and putting out shoddy, half-cheeked work. You won't be forced to check up as often. It's a win/win. As you will notice, the site is a little different. We made some changes. By we, I mean my fantastic cousin-in-law (who, despite my begging refused to name his first son Dirk) and I (who, despite my begging will never convince my own wife to name our next child, if we ever have one, Dirk). I'm not certain yet if you can subscribe to this site. If you used to be a subscriber to the old site and you can't find a link on this one to renew it, then just add this bad boy to your favorites and check in periodically when you are tired of making worthless trips to the coffee machine as an excuse to stop working. You know you don't drink that much coffee. Stop kidding yourselves.
That should take care of you folks. I love you all, and thanks for still reading the meaningless rants of a fan of nothing important. You've been with me since the beginning, and although it will never be the same as how some drunk that just happened to be in the first pub that AC/DC ever played in, let's face it, it's probably as close as you will ever get. Relish it.
For the Viners
Oddly enough, I feel like I owe you guys the biggest apology for disappearing. Since most of my readers are family and friends that I know personally, you were the ones that I have never met. You are an avatar in cyberspace, but yet you befriended me, read my stuff, and even made a comment or two. I appreciate that, and I feel I have let you down with my absence. I hope to earn your interest back.
For the Newbies
Here's the deal. I'm a 100% biased, unapologetic Dallas Mavericks fan. I have been since the day I went to my first game. I've followed this team, dyed in the wool, thick and thin, highs and lows, my entire life. I'm only three years older than the franchise. I was there for the near misses at glory in the 80's. I was still there during the decade of despair in the 90's. I was there during their rise back to the elite in the 2000's. And while I am a little more jaded and pessimistic this season after seeing a window of opportunity to see my lifelong dream come true (a Mavs championship), I will not give up hope, even though I might sound like it at times. What you will get here is this: decent writing (hopefully), mediocre basketball analysis (hopefully), snarky comments about rival teams (definitely), and 100% biased Mavs love that is so 100% biased that even when I am down on the Mavs, you will still know that I am 100% in love with my Mavs (absolutely). That last part is hard to do, but I do it, and do it, and do it well. Most of all, I hope you all have fun. Consider this a new beginning. A new site. A new attitude. A few new wrinkles.
For the newbies, welcome. Feel free to explore the back catalog, which goes all the way back to the origin emails that started this whole blog. Feel free to check out my contributors (and I use that term loosely) and what they bring to the table. The Don (Abram Valdez) has contributed a couple of fantastic clips in the Haiku Heckling section with more to come whenever he so chooses (don't worry, Don, you and I both know what you have on your plate right now). Fandy (Ricky Fandrick) has contributed numerous comments, and I think we will be seeing more of him this year in a new section called Fandy and the Dude's Mavs Email of the Week as I think I have found the best way to get him to write for me (trick him into thinking he's just sending me random emails). And of course, I'm the Dude (Brandon May). Brandon May is the dorky, socially inept, self-depricating jackhole who runs the site. The Dude is a shameless self-promoter with a personality so magnetic he can't carry credit cards, and he exudes more bravado, machismo, and sex appeal than an Old Spice commercial.
If you run across some kinks in the system, don't hesitate to email me at email@example.com. I'll look into it as I am still feeling out the new system. Based on the character descriptions, I suppose you could say that Brandon May will be feeling it out. The Dude will be heavy petting it by candlelight with a Jodeci album playing in the background.
For the readers that have been with me from the beginning, none of this is really new to you, so welcome back. And thank you. Go Mavs!
